Conveyors

We design and manufacture conveyors for a range of different purposes.

Belt conveyors

Belt conveyors are some of the most commonly used conveyors in industry.

Belt conveyors are primarily used to move bulk materials, i.e. powder or granular materials. The advantage of a belt conveyor in comparison to e.g. a drag-chain conveyor is the belt conveyor’s lower friction properties and thereby a significantly smaller power requirement. (Koivisto, Kosti 2017. Kuljetintekniikka.)

We have replaced belt conveyors for e.g., Yara’s production facility, where they move crushed rock from a gyratory crusher to a day silo.

Draw-in drums and creasing rolls

Drums are cylindrical steel structures that have been welded together. An axle runs through the cylinder, around which the drum rotates.

The axle in a draw-in drum must be sturdy enough to withstand the turning moment of the electric motor and the bending moment of the belt. The requirements for the axle in a creasing roll are significantly less stringent, as the axle is only exposed to a marginal bending moment that forms as a result of the belt’s resistance force and tightening torque. The axle of a creasing roll is often significantly thinner than the axle of a draw-in drum. (Koivisto, Kosti 2018. Kuljetintekniikka.)

We designed and manufactured the towing, or winching, device and its steel structures, such as the draw line’s drums, dolly and cable track for Kraton Chemical Oy’s Oulu plant.

Drag-chain conveyors

Drag-chain conveyors are primarily used to move bulk materials, i.e. powder or granular materials.

The best feature of a drag-chain conveyor is its sealed structure, which is a significant advantage when moving dust-creating materials in comparison to a belt conveyor, for example. The material is moved by dragging a chain with paddles attached. Drag-chain conveyors are suitable for medium-length distances from a few metres to several dozens of metres. (Koivisto, Kosti 2017. Kuljetintekniikka.)

Screws

Screw conveyors are used to move, feed or portion, and mix materials, and to unload them in a controlled way in relation to capacity from e.g. a silo. Material is moved and handled using a helical screw blade.

Due to its simple and closed structure, screw conveyors are used in all industrial sectors, such as the chemical industry, animal feed industry, power plants, foodstuffs industry, and commonly in the processing industry. (Koivisto, Kosti 2017. Kuljetintekniikka.)

The parts of the screw conveyor that mix can comprise screw blades or e.g. paddles that intersect inwards and mix the material to be conveyed. Mixing paddles were used in e.g. a paste mixer Simetek delivered to Agnico Eagle.

Elevators

Elevator conveyors are conveyors equipped with buckets that can be used to move loose materials vertically.

Depending on the properties of the material they are conveying, elevator conveyors are either belt elevators or drag-chain elevators with one or two chains. An elevator is a good choice if you need to move materials vertically for process-technical reasons. Due to its closed structure, an elevator is sealed, which makes it possible to move dust-creating or wet substances.

We manufactured and installed two elevators for Oy Rauanheimo Ab’s train unloading station at Mussalo harbour in Kotka.
